Once you have configured the settings for your Online Quiz, the next step is to populate it with questions from your Question Bank. Assign2’s intuitive quiz editor makes it easy to build professional assessments with drag-and-drop organization, flexible pagination, and real-time preview.

🌟 Quiz Editor Features
  • Drag-and-Drop: Easily reorder questions by dragging them to new positions.
  • Flexible Pagination: Automatically distribute questions across pages or customize manually.
  • Individual Marks: Adjust point values for each question independently.
  • Live Preview: Test your quiz exactly as students will see it.
  • Bulk Actions: Select multiple questions to add, remove, or move at once.

Adding Questions to the Quiz

Navigate to the Edit Quiz tab to see your quiz structure. Initially empty, this is where you’ll build your assessment by adding questions from your Question Bank.

Adding from the Question Bank

1.

Click the Add link (appears after each page or at the top of an empty quiz).

2.

Choose from question bank to open the question selector.

3.

Use the category dropdown to navigate your question organization. You can also use the search box to find specific questions.

4.

Check the boxes next to the questions you want to include. You can select multiple questions at once.

5.

Click Add selected questions to the quiz. The questions appear in your quiz editor immediately.

💡 Tip: Questions are added in the order they appear in the question bank. You can easily reorder them after adding using drag-and-drop.

Adding New Questions Directly

You can also create questions directly from the quiz editor:

  • Click Adda new question
  • Select the question type and fill in the details
  • The question is added to both your quiz AND the Question Bank for future reuse

Organizing and Grading

After adding questions, you have complete control over their arrangement, pagination, and point values.

Reordering Questions

Arranging questions is intuitive with drag-and-drop:

  • Click and hold the drag handle (⋮⋮) next to any question
  • Drag the question to its new position
  • Release to drop—the order updates instantly
  • Move questions between pages by dragging them past page breaks

Managing Pagination

Control how questions are distributed across pages:

  • Add page breaks: Click “Add” → “a new section heading” to manually insert page breaks
  • Repaginate tool: Click Repaginate to automatically redistribute all questions—choose 1 question per page (recommended for monitored exams), 2, 3, 5, or 10 questions per page, or all questions on one page.
  • Remove page breaks: Delete section headings to merge pages together

💡 For Proctored Exams: Use 1 question per page. This creates clearer monitoring footage and prevents students from viewing the entire exam at once.

Adjusting Individual Marks

Each question can have its own point value:

  • Click the pencil icon (✏️) next to the mark value
  • Enter the new point value
  • Press Enter or click away to save
  • The quiz total updates automatically

Setting the Maximum Grade

The Maximum grade determines the total points possible for the quiz:

  • Located at the top of the Edit Quiz page
  • Individual question marks are scaled proportionally to this value
  • Example: If your questions total 50 marks but Maximum grade is 100, each mark is worth 2 points
  • Click Save after changing the maximum grade

ℹ️ Note: The maximum grade is what appears in your LMS gradebook. Set it to match your course’s grading scheme (e.g., 100 for percentages, or the exam’s weight in your syllabus).

Removing Questions

To remove a question from the quiz:

  • Click the delete icon (🗑️) next to the question
  • Confirm the removal
  • The question remains in your Question Bank—only removed from this quiz

Previewing the Quiz

Always preview your quiz before releasing it to students. Preview mode lets you experience exactly what students will see, including timing, navigation, and question behavior.

1.

Click the Preview button in the quiz dashboard or Edit Quiz toolbar.

2.

The preview launches in a new window, simulating a real student attempt:

  • Answer questions as a student would
  • Navigate between pages using Next/Previous
  • See the timer countdown (if time limit is set)
  • Flag questions for review
  • Submit and see results based on your review settings
3.

Review the feedback and scoring to ensure everything works as expected.

What to Check During Preview

  • ✅ All questions display correctly (images, equations, formatting)
  • ✅ Answer options are clear and unambiguous
  • ✅ Correct answers are marked correctly
  • ✅ Feedback displays at the right times (based on review settings)
  • ✅ Timer is appropriate for the content
  • ✅ Navigation works as expected

💡 Pro Tip: Preview your quiz on both desktop and tablet to ensure it works well across devices your students might use.
